Dogs maul 8-year-old boy in Kg Mata-Mata

It's time to put stray dogs in Kg Mata-Mata on the leash.
Within a three-week span, a second boy was set upon by a pack of dogs landing him in the hospital with bite wounds to his right thigh and left calf muscle.
Eight-year-old Mohammad Hafizuddin was on his way to a nearby shop with two other children when three stray dogs attacked him around Simpang 207-10 STKRJ, Kg Mata-Mata yesterday afternoon.
Jaini Haji Duraman, who happened to be at the scene, managed to free the child from the vicious attack. The boy was rushed to RIPAS Hospital where he is now being treated.
According to witnesses, if Jaini Haji Duraman had not come to the rescue of the boy the dogs would have attacked the other two children who stood helpless and in mortal fear. Witnesses also said that the dogs, which attacked Hafizuddin, were the same ones that attacked Mohd Hafizan last July 15, which led to a reconstructive surgery on his badly bitten ear.
This has increased concern among residents of the kampong.
One of the three dogs, a large black-coloured one with white stripes, can still be seen roaming the kampong even with steps taken to control the situation by the kampong's consultative council following the July 15 incident.
Hafizuddin was still in pain and tears when the Bulletin met him at the hospital.
Hafizuddin's family members, who were at the hospital, looked shocked at what had happened to the eight-year-old child and hoped that the authorities responsible would take appropriate steps so that such incidents won't be repeated.
According to Penghulu of Mukim Gadong B, Major (R) Haji Bakar Sapar this was the second incident this year in the kampong.
He added that despite the efforts made by the consultative council, stray dogs still roam around as the kampong is quite vast.
Haji Bakar advised parents to ensure that their children are supervised when they are outside the house.
He also added that a meeting will be held by the consultative council to discuss ways to contain the problem and hoped that the authorities could take action as soon as possible before another incident occurs.
